History and identity
Casaprota, from the Farfato the medieval castle
Casaprota stands in the upper basin of the Farfa stream, in an area with a long agricultural tradition. The earliest traces point to Roman country villas and farms, while the name Casa Perotis or Casa Perotae appears as early as 776, referring to a Lombard property that later entered the sphere of Farfa Abbey.
The castle of Casaprota was established in the early 10th century, probably at the initiative of the monks of Farfa. Over the following centuries the village passed through different families and powers, from the De Romania and Brancaleone to the Orsini, Gentili, Vincenzi and Savelli, before finally entering the Apostolic Camera in the 17th century.
