History and identity
Fiamignano, from the fortressto the plateaus
The territory of Fiamignano preserves traces far older than the present village. The Aequicoli lived in this area and, during the Middle Ages, the settlement developed around the fortress of Poggio Poponesco, built in a commanding position above the routes of Cicolano.
The castle passed through the history of the Mareri and Colonna families. As it declined, the population moved lower down and formed the present centre of Fiamignano. Castles, churches and plateaus still tell a history spread across a vast territory between the Valle del Salto and Rascino.
