History and identity
Nazzano, a medieval villageabove the Tiber Valley
The territory of Nazzano preserves evidence of settlement from the Bronze Age and developed significantly during the Roman period. In the Middle Ages the community gathered on the hill along the road that still spirals towards Castello Savelli, built in the 13th century.
The fortress, with its towers and command of the Tiber Valley, defined the village profile for centuries. In the 20th century the creation of Lake Nazzano and later the nature reserve added a new dimension to local identity: medieval history and river landscape now coexist within the same story.
